A 14-year-old girl from Lusaka’s matero township has been charged with the m_rder of her benefactor’s five-year-old son, Lukando Moono, who was hit on the head with a stone on October 27, 2023.
The girl, a grade six pupil, appeared before magistrate George Njobvu for an explanation of the charge.
However, due to the absence of her close relatives, Magistrate Njobvu was unable to explain the charge.
According to reports about the de@th, the child’s aunt, who sells snacks at Chingwere Cemetery and does part-time work for the boy’s mother, requested her to take in the girl and enroll her in school so she wouldn’t miss out on the government’s free education program.
The boy’s mother graciously accepted the request and welcomed the girl as her own kid. It was alleged that on the material day, about 17:00, the boy’s mother asked the girl to make tea for her kid because he did not want to play with his pals.
When the wife returned home after 30 minutes, she discovered that her son was not home, and the girl was sitting alone outside the house. When the girl inquired about her son’s whereabouts, the 14-year-old replied that he had gone to play with his buddies.
The mom then learned from neighbors that her kid had been spotted in the graveyard and appeared to have been att@cked by delinquent adolescents. The woman’s neighbors encouraged her to check on her son at Matero level one hospital, so she raced there, only to be confronted with the devastating news of his de@th.
According to reports, the mom returned home and questioned the daughter, who showed ignorance about his movements and said that she had left the boy playing with his pals while she went shopping.
According to authorities, the girl admitted to hitting the youngster with a stone on his head on their way home from visiting her aunt in the cemetery.
According to reports, the boy’s fault was to exhibit hatred for the girl by suggesting that she return to her village in Kaoma, where vegetables are cooked without oil.
The girl allegedly became enraged and pushed the small person, who fell to the ground. She then picked up a stone and whacked him twice in the head.
After observing blood seeping from Lukando’s ears, the girl apparently shook him, but he remained motionless.
It is also claimed that in a state of fear, the girl abandoned him in the cemetery and hurried to a nearby house, where she asked for water to wash her hands.
