Shoe manufacturing giant, Bata Group has honoured five employees who diligently served the company for over 25 years. Elizabeth Chipunza, Fortunate Chokoyo, Joseph Gonon’ono, Melusi Zhou and Mushindi Godfrey were presented with certificates at an awards ceremony in Gweru on Wednesday.
Bata Group Africa – Middle East president, Faisal Sabzwari was the guest of honor. He expressed his gratitude to the five employees and applauded them for their loyalty.
“Your individual efforts in working as a team over the years have made us to hold this occasion in recognition of such sterling contribution to the company.
“We are proud as Bata that despite harsh economic environments and sometimes shortages of leather, the employees remained loyal to the company and could not vacate for greener pastures,” he said.
He urged fellow staff members to emulate the good work displayed by the five members.
“These long serving members of staff are greatly honoured because they managed to weather the storm of economic challenges over the past 25 years, they forged strong partnerships and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) relationships with clients and communities, based on mutual trust and uncompromising commitment to serve with excellence and unbending integrity,” he said.
Chipunza who joined the company on April 17, 1997, as a general worker expressed her gratitude for being honoured with the prestigious accolade.
“I feel appreciated, Bata has become my second home. The company has nurtured me into what I am. I dedicate this award to my family and colleagues at Bata because it is their support that has kept me here for such a long time.
“This is a motivational initiative which continues to push me to work extra hard and I want to take this opportunity to urge the youths who are employed in several companies to jealously safeguard their jobs for growth and development,” she said.
