Shamiso Pretty Bvukure, an 18-year-old from Murisa Park Unity O in Chitungwiza, was brought to the Harare Magistrates’ Court for violating the Zimbabwe Examination Act.
The case emerged when the Police General Headquarters’ recruiting section sought to verify the ZIMSEC results of several applicants on October 11, 2024.
During this verification process, it was discovered that Bvukure had submitted a forged results slip with discrepancies in her subject grades.
Notably, her mathematics grade was altered from an unapproved “U” to a “C,” English Language went from “U” to “B,” Shona Language was changed from “E” to “A,” and History was similarly upgraded from “U” to “A.”
Additionally, subjects such as Combined Science and Commerce were fraudulently added to her results slip, misleading the authorities about her academic qualifications.
Following the judgment, Bvukure received a sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment, although 6 of those months were suspended for a period of five years, allowing her a second chance.
The remaining 6 months of her sentence will be suspended on the condition that she completes 210 hours of community service.
This ruling underscores the seriousness with which the judicial system treats educational fraud, emphasizing the importance of integrity in academic pursuits.
