The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident that occurred at the 103-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Mbalabala Road on Tuesday morning.
The incident, which took place around 0700 hours, resulted in the de@th of two pedestrians and left two others inj_red.
Details surrounding the accident indicate that a Nissan NP200 vehicle, which was traveling without any passengers, veered off the road and struck the pedestrians who were walking along a footpath approximately 70 meters away from the road.
Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle appeared to have lost control before careening onto the footpath, leading to the devastating incident.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, where they found two individuals, identified as victims of the collision, suffering from fatal inj_ries. Unfortunately, despite the rapid response, both were pronounced d3ad shortly after arriving at the Zvishavane District Hospital.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of their families.
Two additional pedestrians were injured in the accident and have been admitted for treatment at the same hospital.
The driver of the Nissan NP200 is also receiving medical attention and has been taken into custody for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.
