A fatal fight broke out during a beer drinking session between two men in Nyamandlovu last week, leaving one man dead. 21-year-old Godwin Mlotshwa has been arrested and charged with murder after he allegedly struck Obert Ngwenya on the head with a log during an argument.
According to police, the two men had been drinking beer together at a homestead in Seafield Village on July 19 when an argument erupted between them. In a fit of rage, Mlotshwa is said to have grabbed a log and hit Ngwenya over the head.
Ngwenya was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo but succumbed to his injuries and died the same day on July 19. Police arrested Mlotshwa and charged him with murder in connection with Ngwenya’s death.
Brawls and violence are sadly all too common when alcohol is involved. This tragic case serves as a sober reminder of how a moment of anger can have devastating and irreversible consequences. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.
