Appearing before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube, Sibanda faced a grave charge of unlawful possession or use of dangerous drugs. Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, he entered a guilty plea, resulting in his remand in custody until Tuesday when sentencing will take place.
According to court proceedings, the event unfolded on the 15th of November, when diligent detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics section in Bulawayo received a tip-off regarding Sibanda’s alleged involvement in drug-related activities within his Makokoba residence. Wasting no time, the detectives swiftly acted upon the provided information, promptly arriving at the given address where they encountered Sibanda leisurely seated outside. Identifying themselves, the officers proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the premises.
During the meticulous search, law enforcement agents stumbled upon a surprising discovery — an assortment of loose dagga meticulously wrapped in a black plastic bag and discreetly stowed away in a seemingly innocent white lunchbox concealed within the kitchen. The incriminating evidence was promptly seized, leading to Sibanda’s immediate arrest.
In order to ascertain the exact quantity and value of the seized narcotics, the confiscated dagga was subsequently transported to the Bulawayo Post Office, where it underwent a comprehensive weighing procedure. The results revealed that the street value of the illicit substances amounted to $200,000.
The arrest of Michael Sibanda marks yet another significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug peddling and abuse within the city of Bulawayo. It serves as a stark reminder of the persistent efforts being made by law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and safeguard communities from the detrimental effects of narcotics.
