In a deeply disturbing incident, a 19-year-old woman from the Richmond suburb in Bulawayo has reportedly been subjected to a horrifying act of rape allegedly perpetrated by her 37-year-old uncle at his workplace.
The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza, where he faced a charge of rape. Although he pleaded not guilty, he was remanded out of custody until October 12.
According to the allegations, the incident took place on July 10 at approximately 5 p.m. The victim had visited her uncle at his workplace, where he worked as a security guard, to ask for transport money.
Upon her arrival, she found him in the process of locking the gate. She approached him and made her request, prompting him to open the gate. The victim followed him to the back room where he resided, waiting outside as he went indoors.
Disturbingly, upon his return, the perpetrator forcefully dragged the victim into his room, locking the door behind them. He pushed her onto his bed, proceeded to pin her arms behind her back and undress her, ultimately subjecting her to rape. Throughout the assault, the victim reportedly screamed for help, but sadly, no one came to her rescue.
Following the ordeal, the perpetrator callously handed the victim two dollars and five rand before bidding her farewell. The distressing incident only came to light on July 29 when the victim’s aunt returned, and the victim bravely disclosed the horrifying encounter to her.
Together, they went to the Bulawayo central police station, where they reported the matter, leading to the subsequent arrest of the accused.
