On Wednesday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) celebrated the graduation of a total of 553 officers from the Police Staff College, marking the 41st graduation ceremony of its kind, highlighting the institution’s commitment to enhancing the professional skills of its personnel.
Graduates received University of Zimbabwe Diplomas in various fields, including Law, Business Enterprise Development in Policing, and Community Education and Lifelong Learning, while an additional 365 officers were awarded Certificates in a range of essential subjects like Training Methods, Law and Policing, Traffic Management, Staff Administration, and Sign Language.
The ceremony was graced by notable figures, including Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development Minister Ambassador Fredrick Shava, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, and several senior officials from both the government and police force.
In his keynote address, Minister Shava praised the ZRP for its vital role in maintaining peace and security, both domestically and internationally, and recognized their contributions in stabilizing areas affected by conflict.
He specifically highlighted the ZRP’s professionalism during significant events such as the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, attributing this success to the robust training initiatives provided by the Police Staff College.
Shava also underscored the progress made in gender equity within the force, noting a slight increase in the number of female graduates from 209 to 216, which now constitutes 37% of the graduating class, calling it a commendable step toward inclusivity.
He urged Police Commissioner General Matanga to continue this trend by enrolling more female officers in future training programs.
Emphasizing the importance of applying the newly acquired skills to improve policing services, Shava asserted that the government anticipates significant enhancements in police service delivery as a direct outcome of such training.
This graduation event not only symbolized the ZRP’s commitment to ongoing professional development but also served as a reinforcement of its crucial role in fostering public trust and community safety, encouraging officers to integrate their training into practical applications for better service to citizens.
