In a heartbreaking incident, a 60-year-old man from Honde Valley lost his life last week due to the excessive consumption of an illicit brew. Jethro Mukura’s lifeless body was discovered at Gatsi Secondary School the following morning, revealing the tragic consequences of a night of binge drinking.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, the acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, confirmed the untimely d3ath and stated that Mukura’s next of kin had been notified.
According to reports, Mukura, who lived alone, had ventured to Bvuma Business Centre. At one of the local bottle stores, he purchased four bottles of undiluted cane spirit and consumed them without restraint. Afterward, he departed from the business center at sunset.
Later that evening, Godwin Mufori came across a heavily intoxicated Mukura lying by the roadside near Gatsi Secondary School. Mufori attempted to rouse him, urging him to return home, but his efforts were in vain. Consequently, Mufori left Mukura in that state.
The following day, to his dismay, Mufori discovered Mukura still unconscious at the same location. Realizing the severity of the situation, he promptly rushed Mukura to a nearby clinic. During the examination, medical personnel found a remaining bottle of the cane spirit on Mukura’s person.
“Mukura, who stayed alone, left home for Bvuma Business Centre. On arrival at one of the bottle stores, he bought four bottles of a cane spirit and drank them undiluted. He left the business centre at sunset.
“Godwin Mufori later saw a heavily drunk Mukura lying by the roadside at Gatsi Secondary School.
“Mufori tried to wake Mukura up so that he could go home, but he failed. Mufori then left Mukura there.
“The following day, Mufori saw Mukura lying unconscious on the same spot. He rushed him to a nearby clinic.
“They searched him and saw one bottle of the cane spirit,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Mukura was pronounced d3ad at the clinic and no foul play is suspected.
