Zambian authorities have taken drastic measures to contain the spread of Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) in Central Province, slaughtering 852 cattle at a targeted farm.
According to reports, this effort was announced by Provincial Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe during the opening of the 2024 Provincial Agriculture and Commercial Show in Kabwe.
The show’s theme, “Creating a Competitive Future,” emphasizes the need for innovative solutions to address livestock diseases like CBPP and Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), which have severely impacted farmers in the region.
The diseases have resulted in reduced resources and income for farmers, including draft power, manure, nutrition, and income.

The department is also conducting testing and slaughter activities for CBPP-positive animals, leading to the destruction of 852 cattle.
