In the midst of the tragic aftermath surrounding the passing of Zimbabwean artist Garry Mapanzure, his family has stepped forward to address the controversy stemming from a viral video.
Their resounding message aims to debunk false claims suggesting that Garry was drinking alcohol before the incident, shedding light on the true circumstances of the video.
The video in question, depicting Garry Mapanzure pouring alcohol onto the ground, was filmed at his home in Dangamvura, Mutare, in August 2020.
Garry was not indulging in alcohol, as some have suggested, but was performing as part of his Sushi Season Tour, specifically at Barcode.
To dispel any doubt regarding the context of the video, a spokesperson for the Mapanzure family stated,
“This video is being used to convince/insinuate to people that Garry was drinking before the accident, which is false.”
Furthermore, they shared that they have been provided with the full video and corroborating evidence to substantiate their stance.
The circulation of this misleading video has inflicted additional anguish on the Mapanzure family, friends, fans, and associates who are still grappling with the loss of the young artist and the two others who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
In a heartfelt plea, the family spokesperson expressed,
“It is obviously very, very disappointing and adding unnecessary pain to family and friends, fans and associates considering they are still trying to come to terms with Garry’s passing as well as the two other individuals who lost their lives in this tragic accident.”
The family spokesperson urged those responsible for sharing the video to cease its circulation and demonstrate compassion and respect for the grieving parties. They emphasized the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that three young lives have been lost, and it is imperative to join together and offer condolences in a respectful manner.
This plea comes at a time when Zimbabwe is already mourning a string of tragic accidents that have shaken the nation, reinforcing the importance of road safety and responsible behaviour.
