Social media users are celebrating as early V11s show indications that Scott Sakupwanya is losing ground in Mabvuku-Tafara following the 2023 Zimbabwe Elections.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is yet to announce the results for the 2023 Presidential, Parliamentary and Council elections.
The country voted yesterday for the President, MPs and councillors in an election marred by voter disgruntlement.
In most Harare wards, people started voting way after the stipulated 7am opening time because there were no council ballot papers. ZEC explained that voting was delayed because ballot papers were printed late arising from numerous Court challenges.
The Electoral body reported that only 23% of Harare’s polling stations had opened by 10am, 75% had opened by 8.15am in Bulawayo while 85% of stations were operational in Manicaland. ZEC opened over 95% of all polling stations in the other seven provinces in Zimbabwe at 7am.
Currently, people are still voting in areas like Budiriro, Glen view and Glen Norah which received local council ballot papers late for the election.
However, not everyone in Harare voted late, as some polling stations in Mabvuku-Tafara, where gold dealer Scot Sakupwana contested, were on time. As a result, preliminary V11 forms from some stations are already circulating.
A V11 form is an original document carrying results from a polling station and is signed by the ZEC presiding officer and agents of all contesting parties. It is displayed at each voting centre after vote counting.
There are some V11 forms from Batanai Primary School circulating on Twitter showing Scott losing to CCC candidate Munyaradzi Kufahakutizwi at some polling stations. ZEC is yet to declare the winner in the constituency.
Kufahakutizwi went into the streets this morning with supporters, singing “ZANU yakafira kuma cell.”
During his campaign, Scott, referred to as the “new Mr Gold” on source Gold Mafia documentary, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars bringing in US boxer Floyd Mayweather in July. He also fixed the road in Mabvuku-Tafara, provided free buses and donated money to residents hoping they vote for him.
