Parents of students attending Moleli High School in Zvimba district are expressing their anger and concern over the school’s failure to tighten security measures following a recent break-in at the girls’ hostel. The incident, which occurred last night, has left parents demanding action from the school authorities.
According to a WhatsApp message sent by the school’s headmaster, Mr. Fortune Gundani, a thief managed to gain entry into the Advanced Level girls’ hostel around 2 a.m., making off with five laptops. Mr. Gundani promptly contacted the police, who have since launched an investigation into the matter. Fortunately, all the learners are reported to be safe.
While attempts to reach Mashonaland West’s acting provincial education director, Mr. Gabriel Mhumha, for comment were unsuccessful, local police in Zvimba confirmed the break-in incident. This occurrence follows a previous raid in July, during which nine armed robbers overpowered security guards and stole a significant amount of valuables, including cash, laptops, and cellphones.
The repeated security breaches have left parents deeply concerned for the safety of their children. Many are now questioning the school’s ability to provide adequate security measures. A parent, speaking anonymously, expressed shock over the escalating robbery cases at Moleli High School, raising doubts about the safety of the students. Another parent expressed relief that the thief did not harm or assault any of the students, but criticized the lack of effective security measures in place.
The recent break-in has intensified calls for immediate action to fortify security at Moleli High School. Parents understandably demand reassurance that their children can study in a safe and secure environment.
