ZIMBABWE captain Marvelous Nakamba believes his English Premier League side, Luton Town need more self-belief to survive relegation after their 1-2 loss to champions Manchester City on Sunday.
Nakamba, who was making his return from a knee injury after missing three games, was in the thick of things as they battled it out in the midfield.
Luton are regarded as one of the less fancied sides this season after gaining promotion to EPL but they have stood their ground and shown resilience against any opponent, most recently against Liverpool (1-1), Arsenal (3-4) and Manchester City.
Luton Town led in the second half in the three matches against Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City and only have one point to show for it.
In 16 outings they have only managed to amass nine points with Nakamba missing out on three matches due to injury.
The Warriors captain feels that they did their best as a team against Manchester City on Sunday just that it was not their day. Nakamba saluted their home fans for inspiring them to give spirited performances.
In an interview aired on SuperSport, he said:
“We did our best as a team to take out the positives and focus now on the next match.
“Especially here at home with the fans behind us it is the DNA of the club to let go against anyone by giving our best as a team to get some result unfortunately today it wasn’t meant to be but I think as a team with the fans pushing us at home we just have to continue playing the same way and try to get some positive results.
“It was a good time for us to get a goal just before half-time and I am happy for the goal scorer Adebayo and the team.
“We had avoided conceding in the first half and failed to do so in the second half and conceded two quick goals in 15 minutes but we need to be more positive and keep going.
“When you lose position against Man City you have to run more than you have done before but as a team, we tried. And speaking with them after the game they were like you guys should continue doing what you are doing don’t change and it’s a positive hearing from one of the best teams in the world saying that to you.
“We need to stick together more and continue to give our best.
“Of course to come losing is so frustrating but also playing against the best teams in the world, Arsenal was so close and city now we just to encourage ourselves more and hope it will happen one day,” he said.
