A suspected drug dealer was arrested in Harare after a dramatic high-speed chase with detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics unit ended in a crash.
Taurai Musindo,38, was brought before a court charged with unlawfully possessing dangerous drugs and resisting a peace officer. He was remanded in custody and awaits a bail application hearing tomorrow.
According to prosecutors, detectives received a report that Musindo was selling drugs near Avenues so they posed as potential buyers to lure him to the CBD.
When police moved to arrest him, Musindo fled at high speed along Third Street, forcing detectives into a chase.
Musindo drove into George Silundika Avenue where he crashed into two vehicles near Raylton Sports Club and was arrested.
A search revealed Musindo had hidden 4 packets of cocaine in his trousers and another 6 packets stuffed in the dashboard, weighing a total of 8 grams worth an estimated ZW$1,922,079.
The dramatic chase, crash and drug bust exposed not just a suspected dealer’s brazen attempts to evade police but the dangerously reckless driving he resorted to in a bid for freedom. The huge stash of high-purity cocaine he attempted to conceal reveals an allegedly lucrative illicit operation that investigators will now work to unravel and dismantle.
With drug abuse fueling rising crime, stricter law enforcement and bigger busts are needed to get dangerous dealers like Musindo off our streets and cut supplies of illicit substances threatening communities.
