TALENTED teenager Ryan Gwidzima scooped bronze in the under-19 boys category at the just-ended 2023 Scottish Junior Squash Open held in Edinburgh, Scotland from the 27th to the 30th of December.
Ryan Gwidzima represented the country in the Scottish Junior Open which featured almost 200 international junior players.
The gifted 17-year-old Zimbabwean put on an impressive show in the tournament as he made a strong challenge for the coveted title before settling for a podium finish.
The teenager lost in the semi-finals to the eventual winner and home favourite, Kyle Penman of Scotland before Gwidzima dusted himself up to clinch a convincing victory against another Scottish player, Oliver Hunter in the bronze medal match.
Earlier in the tournament, Gwidzima caused a huge upset by knocking out the pre-tournament favourite and second seed, Connor Hayes from Australia in the second round.
Ryan Gwidzima is currently on a scholarship at Wycliffe University in the United Kingdom where he has won several England Silver tournaments, earning a reputation as a formidable player.
At Wycliffe, Gwidzima has been nothing short of spectacular, causing significant upsets by defeating top-ranked players in England and recently securing victory in the Chichester Silver tournament.
Gwidzima now turns his attention to the British Junior Open, which will take place from January 3rd to the 7th, before competing in the French Junior Open next month.
