Zimbos are lauding Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart after the city’s council completed phase 1 construction at Egodini Rank.
Egodini Rank is a bus terminus in the Bulawayo city centre that has been undergoing a major redevelopment project by a South African company called Terracotta Trading Private Limited. The project aimz to transform the rank into a modern mall with shops, offices, and other facilities.
Construction Review reports that Terracotta won the US$ 60 million build, operate and transfer tender in 2016. However, the project has faced several delays and challenges, such as the Covid-19 lockdown, underground civil works, and conflict between the council and Central Government.
So far, the Bulawayo City Council has finished the first phase of construction. The contractor has completed constructing most of taxi rank islands, taxi rank steelworks and the informal traders stalls.
When politician David Coltart took over the mayoral reins at the Bulawayo City Council, he pushed for the Egodini Rank project to move faster. Images of the project are emerging and the new look Egodini is exciting Zimbos.
Most of the shades on the bus terminus are complete and Terracotta finished the vending stalls.
Zimbos online are praising Mayor David Coltart for speeding the completion of Egodini Rank.
“This is Bulawayo at Egodini under the supervision and leadership of our Mayor David Coltart. He just came in as a Mayor 4 months ago. He pushed this project.”
“Finally something worth talking about. We now await the mall itself. Phase one looking good.”
“It is a miss from what was initially on paper. However its a good attempt.”
“It’s crystal clear that it’s not solely about money or loyalty to an entity. What truly matters is the determination to serve the people and make a positive impact in their lives.”
“Coltart is a great guy but this was initiated before he came to office. It was complete just on time when he got in office. Coltart will probably achieve more if given support.”
