United Kingdom based Zimbabwean musician Qounfuzed has denied that only 15 people attended his show in China, saying at least 80 fans had watched him go on stage in the Asian country.
Qounfuzed found himself the butt of jokes on social media after the emergence of videos of him performing in front of a handful of people in China.
“The show had more than 80 people in attendance and not 15 like some bloggers are saying,” Qounfuzed told H-Metro.
“The thing with China is the distance between the cities and also that it’s now the winter season, so some people could not make it to the show.
“I started to perform early when people were still entering so that people were aware that I was around for the show. I’m sure those were the videos that were circulated by certain individuals who want to tarnish my image.”
Qounfuzed said despite the poor attendance, he wanted to avoid a scenario where he boycotted the performance entirely.
“There have been cases where some artists have been advertised but didn’t make it, so I was trying to avoid that scenario with my fans. I’m grateful to those who actually made it for the show and look forward to return in October.
“I am focusing on striking a balance this year and releasing more music, something I didn’t do last year because of touring. This year my fans can expect a lot of music and a lot of shows globally,” he said.
