Shona rap pioneer Alishias ‘Maskiri’ Musimbe, who shot to fame at the height of the urban grooves craze in Zimbabwe at the turn of the century, has turned to goat farming, as he continues his pursuit of success outside showbiz circles.
Maskiri, made his name with controversial and explicit lyrics that often pitted him against conservative members of Zimbabwean society, who felt the subject matter his music tackled was taboo.
Maskiri has since undergone transformation in his life, with his latest business venture, goat farming, coming out like yet another bolt out of the blue from a man whose life and career has been full of surprises.
The 43-year-old told the H-Metro newspaper that he had always dreamt of being a farmer while growing up in Chitungwiza whenever he visited his village in Hwedza.
He realised his dream when he was allocated a farm by the government after a land audit.
“I am operating from Seke and hope to get a farm after the Government’s land audit. So far, we own over 100 pure breeds from Namibia. My wish is to ensure ready availability of these goats countrywide,” he said.
