In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through the Redcliff community, a 75-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife were found m_rdered in their home on Valentine’s Day.
The victims have been identified as Kenneth Pedzisai Chirashi and Lorna Taylor Chirashi.
The tragic event unfolded when police responded to a report of a suspicious situation at the couple’s residence. Breaking down the locked doors, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Chirashi.
Collins Jongwe, the family’s mechanic, was arrested in Gokwe as a suspect in the murder case.
Midlands police spokesman Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed Collins Jongwe arrest to ZimLive stating;
“Police arrested a 34-year-old man who is suspected to have murdered a couple in Kwekwe. The suspect was arrested whilst driving the couple’s vehicle in Gokwe.”
Collins Jongwe was apprehended at a police checkpoint around 6.30PM on Valentine’s Day. He was stopped by the police while driving the couple’s silver Mercedes Benz, which had missing number plates. A crucial breakthrough occurred when Chirashi’s mobile phone, found in the car, rang during the interrogation.
When the police officer answered Mr. Chirashi’s mobile phone, the caller identified himself as the couple’s son, Mike.
Alarmed after the call, Mike contacted one of the neighbors and requested them to check on his parents. Upon arriving at the Chirashi residence, the neighbor found the doors locked. Sensing something amiss, the neighbor promptly contacted the police.
In a grim discovery, Mr. Chirashi’s deceased body was found inside the house with a deep cut on his forehead and a rope tied around his neck, suggesting a brutal assault. Chirashi wife’s body was found in the bathroom, bearing four deep cuts to her head.
According to a neighbor, screams were heard emanating from the Chirashi home at approximately 7 AM on Valentine’s Day. Shortly after, the neighbor witnessed Jongwe driving away in the couple’s Mercedes.
The gruesome double murder has left the Redcliff community in a state of shock. The motive behind the murders remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
