In a surprising turn of events, a 13-year-old pupil is now in custody after sh00ting the principal at Primrose Primary School in Germiston, Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.
The identity of the suspect is being withheld for ethical reasons, and the South African Police Service swiftly apprehended the individual. Meanwhile, the injured principal is receiving treatment at a Johannesburg hospital.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident, stating that the circumstances leading to the sh00ting remain unknown. An investigation has been initiated to trace the origin of the firearm, now in police possession. The pupil is expected to appear before the Germiston magistrate’s court in the near future.
This incident is not an isolated case, as past occurrences reveal a disturbing pattern. In 2022, a 16-year-old pupil in KwaZulu-Natal sh0t and wounded a teacher following an argument at Mqhawe Secondary School in Ntuzuma. Another student from Tembisa took the life of his teacher due to academic failure.
