54-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court for illegal possession of explosives worth US$640.
Charles Ngwenya was not asked to plead to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube on Tuesday.
The magistrate remanded him out of custody to March 11 on US$50 bail.
The court was told that on February 26 at around 11am, police received information that there were some illegal mining activities taking place at Lookcroof Farm near ZETDC Marvel substation.
It is the State’s case that a team of detectives went to investigate and on arrival, the illegal miners fled, but Ngwenya was caught.
The detectives requested to check the storeroom and recovered 87 mining explosives in a box, two bundles of ignition cables and 6x25x 1,2 metre green fuses.
Ngwenya failed to produce a licence allowing him to keep the mining explosives, leading to his arrest.
