Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League has banned bottles, cans, cooler boxes, pushcarts, buckets and other items from entering stadiums during Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches.
In a statement released on Sunday morning. Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League said that items that can be used as weapons or missiles or those that may endanger the safety of others are banned from league matches.
“This serves to advise that for the purposes of safety and security, objects including bottles, cans, cooler boxes, pushcarts, buckets and other items that may be used as weapons or missiles or those that may endanger the safety of others are prohibited during Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches,” part of the statement reads.
The club football governing body said to ensure that the prohibition is upheld, security personnel will conduct thorough searches at entry points at stadiums. The Premier Soccer League said anyone found carrying the banned items on their person will be denied entry.
“The security officials will be conducting thorough searches at entry points and anyone found in possession of prohibited objects will be denied entry,” the statement further reads.
It will interesting to see how the PSL will enforce this ban considering that in March last year, it gave clubs the greenlight to sell alcohol during matches. However, clubs have to meet a few conditions before they can sell alcohol at the stadiums.
Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chief Executive Officer Kennedy Ndebele clarified that clubs can only sell alcohol if they obtain written consent from stadium owners, receive police clearance, and acquire liquor licenses from the Liquor Licensing Board. Additiona
