There was chaos in Masvingo earlier today as the public could not contain themselves after opposition politician Nelson Chamisa entered a supermarket.
Chamisa, who quit the presidency of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) two months ago, has been laying low during this time. He has been chiefly active on X, sharing motivation and Bible verses and hinting at the way forward politically.
However, he made his first public appearance today following his resignation from CCC. Chamisa was travelling with his entourage from Chivi in the Masvingo Province. He then stopped briefly in the Masvingo CBD and entered a supermarket to buy a few things.
Chamisa’s time in the shop was madness. When other shoppers and the public spotted him, they rushed to cram around him. They whistled and cheered, yelling, “Nero, Nero!”
People whipped out their phones to film him and take selfies while others squeezed in to shake his hand. His security aides had difficulty keeping the crowd at bay as Chamisa interacted with the people.
The politician also chatted with some shop workers at various sections, including the tills. When he was done, he walked out, greeting vendors who were selling their wares at the entrance. People followed him and crowded outside, screaming. He then waved them and embarked into his white SUV before taking off.
Watch the wild scenes below.
Chamisa was touched by the show of love in Masvingo and took to X to express his amazement:
“HUMBLING… On my way from Chivi, I made a brief stop at a local supermarket in Masvingo. I’m in awe of the deep love you show me. THANK YOU, ZIMBABWE, for the trust, confidence and encouragement. It can only be of God. You will never be disappointed! #Godisinit.”
