A notorious crew of Masvingo robbers that had given residents of Victoria Range sleepless nights have finally been sentenced and jailed for their crimes. Two individuals, Jacob Wushe, 26, from Kwekwe and Regis Tami, 37, from Zaka, were recently found guilty by the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court on multiple counts of robbery. The two have recently been on a criminal spree that has led to their arrest.
This duo was part of an armed gang operating in the vicinity of Victoria Range in Masvingo during the period spanning from January 23rd to February 25th, 2024. They targeted several residences, where they forcibly entered and demanded cash and various valuables from the occupants.
Employing threats of violence, including the use of knives, machetes, and catapults, they seized mobile phones, electronic devices, and other valuable possessions from the victims.
Their criminal activities ended on February 25th, 2024, when law enforcement apprehended them after a robbery at Glentor Farm in Masvingo and another incident at Zimre Park Masvingo on the same night.
The total worth of the stolen items amounted to USD 7,396, out of which USD 4,411 worth of property was successfully recovered. The two were held in custody to face the wrath of the law.
Following their arrest and subsequent trial, the defendants were sentenced to a term of 43 months in prison, with 6 months suspended for a period of 5 years. An additional 8 months were also suspended on the condition that they compensate the victims.
