Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says that private higher education institutions under the Educor group gave students marks based on exam scripts that were not marked, because lecturers had not been paid.
Nzimande was addressing the media on Tuesday in Pretoria on the deregistration of private higher education institutions owned by Educor, including Damelin, CityVarsity, Icesa City Campus and Lyceum College.
Nzimande said complaints against the institutions included poor quality of learning and teaching, poor quality staff, and non-payment of salaries.
In a notice in the Government Gazette on Friday, the department confirmed that the deregistration of the institutions followed Educor’s failure to submit audited financial statements for the 2021 and 2022 annual reports.
