Government of Zimbabwe under the Second Republic led by His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has geared up towards infrastructures development.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development schedule for Charles Prince Airport upgrade as government continues to modernize the country’s aviation infrastructure.
The development confirmed by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development on it’s X handle account by saying
“Harare’s airport dedicated to light aircraft and flying schools, Charles Prince Airport in Mount Hampden, is scheduled for upgrade as Government continues to modernise the country’s aviation infrastructure.”
Charles Prince Airport is located in Mt Hampden 12 km from Westgate (23km from the Harare Main Post Office). It is under Zvimba Rural District Council. The airport is owned and operated by the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (ACZ).
It is the home of flight training organisations, charter operators as well as aircraft maintenance organisations in Zimbabwe.
The Airport started operations in the early 1940s as a training base for pilots for the Royal Air force and the Southern Rhodesian Air force in the Second World War. The base closed around 1948.
