Eight individuals narrowly escaped a fatal accident after the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with a commuter omnibus on the Harare-Bulawayo Highway, just outside Kwekwe.
The incident, which occurred on September 5 around 4 PM, involved a Nissan Atlas truck and a Gweru-bound Nissan Caravan carrying a total of 19 passengers.
According to Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the accident transpired when a 24-year-old driver named Felix Mazinyo attempted to overtake a stationary Chevrolet that was yielding to oncoming traffic for a right turn.
Mazinyo was driving a Nissan Atlas vehicle towards Kwekwe when the collision took place at the 213-kilometer mark.
The collision resulted in injuries to eight individuals, including Mazinyo, who were promptly rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital for medical treatment. The severity of their injuries was not disclosed in the available information.
