Former Mamelodi Sundowns football player Tiyani Mabunda has got social media buzzing after it emerged that he is now a pastor at the controversial Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church, founded by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, who is currently evading charges of corrupti0n, money laund3ring, and racketeering, established the ECG church. A video circulating on social media captured Tiyani Mabunda ministering to the congregation during the Easter weekend.
In the footage, he can be seen singing, dancing, and delivering sermons, eliciting diverse responses from his followers.
Tiyani Mabunda’s career shift has sparked a flurry of mixed reactions on social media. Some social media users expressed disappointment and disapproval that he opted to be a pastor at Shepherd Bushiri’s church, who has always been accused of being a fake prophet.
However, Pastor Nokuthula N Sunday of the Gods Witness Cathedral Church was one of the first to come to Mabunda’s defence, commending his spiritual journey.
She expressed her belief in Mabunda’s teachings and faith, emphasizing that he had not succumbed to the pitfalls often faced by professional athletes. Pastor Nokuthula described Mabunda as a remarkable man of God, highly anointed, and praised his services at the ECG Solution Centre.
Evangelist Khensani Shivuri joined the voices of support for Mabunda, expressing pride in his decision to pursue the work of God. She highlighted the scarcity of soccer players involved in religious endeavors and emphasized that the name of the church was inconsequential at this point.
