Educators and learners at Bophelong Secondary School in Vanderbijlpark were left in shock after a teacher coll@psed near his car, inside the school premises and d!3d. The Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed devastation over the incident that happened yesterday morning.
Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said they received information that the teacher reported to work on Thursday morning and passed by the principal’s office to greet him. “However, as the staff meeting was about to commence, he was not there. The school’s administrator allegedly found the educator lying down next to his car. Emergency services were contacted for assistance. Unfortunately, the educator was declared d3@d upon arrival. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, “said Mabona.
Mabona said their psycho-social support team will be deployed to the school to offer counselling services to all staff and learners who may be affected by this unfortunate incident. “We are devastated by the passing of one of our educators and wish to convey our sincere condolences to his family and school community,” said MEC Chiloane. Meanwhile in KwaZulu-Natal, two teachers were k!lled in an accident whilst on their way to attend a workshop in Durban. The MEC for education in KwaZulu-Natal Mbali Frazer said:” our deepest condolences on the passing of two educators who were en route to a workshop yesterday from Sogidi Primary School from the Ndwedwe circuit. Two of them are in a critical state in hospital.”
