A man and his girlfriend in a tragic accident after making a railway line their romantic meeting place.
According to reports, a man who worked for a company involved in upgrading the Harare-Beitbridge Highway decided to spend time with his partner where they sometimes met – on the tracks just north of Beitbridge. It’s believed the two laid down on a mattress across the rails to rest. In the night, an oncoming goods train hit the couple as they slept, taking their lives.
Police were called to the horrific scene. While names have not been publicly released, the man’s employer Bitumen World confirmed he was one of the victims and had been off duty at the time. The location of the accident was in an area near where the company maintains a main camp for its highway project.
