THE Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) should withdraw licences of health professionals who continue to break pharmaceutical laws, Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Speaking at MCAZ’s recent annual general meeting held in Harare, Chiwenga said the authority should continue its efforts towards combating these illicit practices. He was speaking in his official capacity as Health minister before Douglas Mombeshora was announced as new minister yesterday.
“Government exhorts the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe to revoke licences for errant health professionals who continue to flout pharmaceutical laws, regulations and guidelines,” he said.
“Efforts should be directed towards raising awareness, strengthening law enforcement and implementing stringent measures to safeguard the integrity of our healthcare system.
“I urge the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe to adapt and embrace innovative approaches to regulating medicines to ensure the safety and efficacy of medicines.”
Chiwenga expressed government’s commitment to strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain management system, while increasing local production of essential medicines.
He commended MCAZ for playing a critical role of ensuring affordability and availability of medicines for all Zimbabweans, particularly those in rural areas and vulnerable populations.
