The 2024 Castle Tankard event, held at Borrowdale Race Course in Harare, was a spectacular affair, living up to its reputation as Zimbabwe’s longest-running horse racing event.
Organized annually by Delta Beverages through its Castle Lager brand, the festivities culminated in a music extravaganza that left attendees captivated.
After the thrilling horse races, the celebration continued with a concert featuring sungura maestro Alick Macheso and dancehall chanter Freeman, providing an unforgettable musical experience.
Macheso and his Orchestra Mberikwazvo delivered a masterful performance, with Macheso’s signature dance moves and stage antics leaving the audience spellbound. The audience’s chants of “siyanai naye Macheso” reflected their admiration for the living legend.
Macheso’s performance brought the curtains down on this year’s Castle Tankard, leaving a lasting impression on attendees.
Rising star Master H commanded the stage with infectious energy, delivering hit after hit to the delight of fans. Freeman HKD demonstrated his prowess as a performer, seamlessly engaging with his backing vocalists and captivating the audience from start to finish.
A highlight of the event was Freeman’s collaboration with Macheso on the hit song “Ngaibake,” showcasing the synergy between two generations of music icons.
The event was impeccably managed, with seamless timing ensuring a smooth flow of activities. Attendees enjoyed a variety of culinary delights from food stalls, accompanied by an abundance of beverages from Delta Beverages.
The entertainment lineup also included Master H and hip-hop maestro Bling 4, with the Chillspot Family delivering an electrifying performance, captivating the packed venue with their spirited showmanship.
While Bling 4 showcased his rising stardom, there is still room for improvement in his live performances to enhance his stage presence.
Hosts Dj Lroy and Nikki in the Stars kept the audience engaged throughout the event. Dj Lroy’s surprise appearance in traditional apostolic regalia added to the amusement and applause.
Looking ahead, one would note that organizers Delta Beverages should consider including female musicians in future editions to promote gender inclusivity.
