The Zanu PF Provincial youth chairman for Masvingo, facing an @ssault case, has requested a postponement, accusing the complainant, former mayor and lawyer Maboke, of influencing lawyers to refuse to represent him.
Delight Mandebvu, who entered the courtroom on crutches after being run over by a car during a scuffle with the opposition politician, also applied to have his case transferred out of Masvingo, arguing that Maboke had influence over magistrates in the province.
The case will proceed in Masvingo, and Mandebvu has been given two weeks to find a lawyer.
Mandebvu faces three counts of @ssault after allegedly @ttacking Maboke, his wife Tariro, and a relative, Simbarashe Matyei.
The incident occurred after Mandebvu’s vehicle collided with Maboke’s along Masvingo-Mutare Road two months ago.
Mandebvu is accused of making a U-turn after the accident, driving after Maboke’s vehicle, and blocking its path 10km further down the road.
He then allegedly assaulted the three individuals. Mandebvu denies the charges.
He informed Magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi that he needed a month to find a lawyer outside Masvingo.
However, he later withdrew his application to have his case heard outside Masvingo Province.
