A former police officer has been sentenced after he was found guilty of stealing bricks in Hwange at Hwange Colliery Company.
Manas Mbano, aged 43, has been handed a 12-month prison sentence for stealing bricks from the local colliery company.
Mbano’s sentence includes a four-month suspension for five years, provided he did not commit a similar offence during this period. The remaining eight months are to be served as 280 hours of community service in the coal-mining town.
According to court records, Mbano was apprehended on May 3rd after being discovered unloading bricks in a secluded area near GVZ Leisure Centre. The bricks, marked ‘Wankie Bricks’, raised suspicion as Mbano could not account for their origin.

NPA Reports a 23-year-old arrested for robbery
In a different case, Willard Ncube, a 23-year-old resident of Filabusi, received a 12-month prison sentence for robbery. However, he will effectively serve an eight-month term, with two months suspended for good behaviour and another two months set aside upon restitution.
The court was informed that on April 27th, Ncube, along with an accomplice, Philani Moyo, who remains at large, accosted the complainant and her friend on Fox Road in Victoria Falls. At knifepoint, they robbed the complainant of her cell phone.
Ncube was quickly detained after the complainant’s screams attracted a nearby security guard, leading to his immediate arrest.
