President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to visit the site of a collapsed building in George, Western Cape, today, where he will meet with officials and families of the deceased workers.
Last week, a multi-storey building under construction collapsed in the South African city of George. Twenty-four people were rescued and transported to hospitals for treatment.
Rescue teams in South Africa have been working to find more survivors as the death toll has risen to 32. There was a glimmer of hope over the weekend when one of the construction workers was found alive after being trapped for six days without food and water in the rubble of the building.
However, another 20 workers remain missing, raising concerns that the death toll could surpass 50 in one of South Africa’s deadliest building collapses.
