The cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe has been ongoing since February 2024, with a significant number of suspected and confirmed cases, as well as recoveries and d3aths.
As of May 15, 2024, the country has recorded 34,016 suspected cases, 3,964 confirmed cases, 33,247 recoveries, 87 confirmed d3aths, and 624 suspected d3aths.
In Zimbabwe, factors such as water supply challenges, lack of access to sanitation and hygiene, and prolonged dry seasons caused by climate change have exacerbated the outbreak.
Cholera is a bacterial disease that spreads through contaminated water and food, and it can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration.
To combat the spread of cholera, Zimbabwe needs to invest in its water sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.
International organisations such as UNICEF are working closely with the government to manage the health crisis and address the root causes of cholera and other public health emergencies.
