Singer Sean Kingston was arrested in California, just hours after a police raid at his Florida mansion during which his mother was also detained.
In February, a company accused Mr. Kingston of not fully paying for an expensive TV and sound system.
He was apprehended in Fort Irwin, southern California, on fraud and theft charges based on a warrant from Florida, according to Florida police.
In a prior social media post, Mr. Kingston mentioned that his lawyers were “handling everything.”
The Florida police raid focused on a residence near Fort Lauderdale, which court documents from February listed as Mr. Kingston’s address.
US media, including CBS News, reported that the woman arrested was Mr. Kingston’s mother.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the raid to the BBC, stating that arrest and search warrants were executed at the property.
“As a result of the investigation, an adult female, Janice Turner, 2/16/1963, was taken into custody on numerous fraud and theft charges. This investigation is active and ongoing.”
Officers were seen removing items from the house afterward. It is unclear whether the arrests are directly linked to the company’s allegations.
Mr. Kingston’s arrest later that day in southern California occurred “without incident,” according to Broward police. He was set to be booked into jail in San Bernardino.
Mr. Kingston and his mother, known on Instagram as Mama Kingston, have been asked for a response.
Before his arrest, Mr. Kingston addressed the situation on Instagram, stating, “I am good and so is my mother,” and adding that his lawyers were handling the matter.
