Businessman Shingi Mutasa has vowed to change the names of Jameson and Churchill hotels.
He eloquently indicated that the current names evoke memories of colonialism and reflect a psychological colonisation of the country.
Mutasa asserts that these names still glorify individuals who played a role in destroying the nation’s history.
Despite anticipating some negative reactions, he is determined to replace these colonial names.
The Cresta Jameson Hotel, which opened in 1959, was refurbished and enlarged in 1995.
Meanwhile, the Cresta Churchill, originally known as the “Churchill Arms,” was established to provide accommodation for holidaymakers and business travelers, becoming a popular meeting place for both locals and tourists.
