The Government has announced plans to raise the minimum age for all public service drivers, including bus and kombi drivers, to 30 in a bid to curb the alarming number of traffic acc!dents and fatalities on Zimbabwe’s roads.
According to Minister of Transport, Felix Mhona, the move is aimed at reducing the incidence of reckless driving, which is largely attributed to young drivers lacking experience and maturity.
The Minister emphasized that the new policy is intended to promote road safety and reduce the risk of acc!dents and fatalities.
Under the new plan, all public service drivers, including bus and kombi drivers, will be required to be at least 30 years old to be eligible for a driving license.
The Minister emphasized that this decision will not only reduce the risk of acc!dents but also promote a culture of responsible driving among public service drivers.
The Minister also highlighted that the Government is working with other stakeholders, including road authorities, insurance companies, and law enforcement agencies, to implement other measures aimed at reducing road acc!dents and fatalities.
The new policy is expected to come into effect in the next few months, pending the passage of necessary legislation. Meanwhile, the Government is urging all road users to exercise caution and follow road safety regulations to prevent accid3nts and fatalities.
