Cricket fans in Zimbabwe are rejoicing as India has confirmed their tour of the country for a five-match T20 series from July 6th to July 14th. This will be India’s first tour of Zimbabwe since 2022, when they played three One Day International matches at Harare Sports Club.
The tour is expected to generate significant revenue for Zimbabwe Cricket, which will be a welcome boost to the organization. Fans will also get the opportunity to watch the Indian team up close, with many top players expected to feature in the series.
“It’s fantastic news that the biggest cricket nation in the world is coming to Zimbabwe,” said Dean du Plessis, a cricket expert. “While it’s unfortunate that the tour comes just after the World Cup, India is still a huge drawcard and fans will be excited to see some of the IPL stars in action. It’s up to the Zimbabwean team to raise their game and try to match the international teams.”
Zimbabwe Cricket has sent a Zim A Women’s team to Rwanda for the Kwibuka Women’s T20I tournament, which started in 2014. The side includes nine Under-19 players, with senior internationals captain Chiyedza Dhururu, Loryn Phiri, and Kelis Ndhlovu providing experience.
The tournament will feature national teams from Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, and Rwanda, making it an exciting opportunity for the Zimbabwean women’s team to gain valuable experience and exposure.
The upcoming tour of India is a significant development for Zimbabwean cricket, and fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Indian team. With top-class cricket and exciting matches on the horizon, it promises to be a thrilling summer of cricket in Zimbabwe.
