Mafume launches clean-up Campaign, hands over refuse collection equipment

The Mayor, Cllr Jacob Mafume, along with other City officials, joined forces today to launch a clean-up campaign in Mt. Pleasant.

The initiative, aimed at maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the city’s streets, included the handover of refuse collection equipment to residents and business owners.

Accompanied by Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango and other city officials, the Mayor emphasised the importance of community involvement in preserving the city’s cleanliness.

“Today, we are not just launching a clean-up campaign; we are also empowering our residents and business owners to take ownership of their environment,” he said.

“We aim to foster a culture of cleanliness and sustainability in our city, and we believe that through collaboration, we can achieve this objective.”

The Mayor also praised the residents of Mt. Pleasant for their cooperation and dedication to maintaining a clean community.

“We applaud the efforts of Mt. Pleasant residents who have been diligently working to keep their area pristine,” he said. “Your contributions are recognized, and we are committed to supporting your initiatives.”

The handover of refuse collection equipment signifies a significant stride towards the city’s cleanliness goals.

The equipment, comprising bins, dumpsters, and refuse trucks, was provided by the city council to aid residents and business owners in proper waste disposal and premises upkeep.

During his remarks, Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango underscored the importance of efficient waste management in preserving a clean environment. “Effective waste management plays a pivotal role in maintaining our city’s cleanliness,” he remarked. “It is imperative that we ensure proper waste collection and disposal to mitigate environmental pollution and health risks.”

The clean-up campaign forms part of the city’s ongoing endeavors to enhance environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life for its inhabitants.

This initiative will persist throughout the year, encompassing regular clean-up drives and awareness initiatives to engage residents and foster community participation.
