Two men, Lloyd Sibanda and Cuthbert Mpame, were acquitted of culpable homicide charges after their dog, a boerboel, fatally att@cked a seven-year-old child in Norton.
Magistrate Clever Tsikwa ruled that Lloyd Sibanda (35) and Cuthbert Mpame (63) were not guilty as their dog did not go out to att@ck the child but instead, the child had entered the dog’s territory, and there was no evidence that the dog was roaming freely or had a history of aggression.
The prosecution failed to prove that the dog was vicious or that the defendants were responsible for the child’s de@th.
The incident occurred in October 2022, and the child’s grandmother had found the dog near the child’s body.
The defendants were neighbors of the child’s family and were not related to the vict!m.
