A 62-year-old serial r@pist from Chipinge, Daniel Chauke, was sentenced to a total of 133 years in prison on seven counts of rap3 after a lengthy trial from June 10 to 14, 2024.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Chauke committed his first offense on April 3, 2022, when he approached a 69-year-old woman who was returning from her field.
He falsely accused her grandchildren of ste@ling his property and h!t her, causing her to fall. He then tied her hands and mouth and forced her into a nearby bush where he r@ped her.
Chauke committed six more similar crimes against six women between July 2022 and April 2024. The v!ctims included a 60-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 71-year-old woman, a 36-year-old woman, and a 45-year-old woman.
The court sentenced Chauke to 18 years in prison for the first count 15 years in prison for the second count 20 years each for counts 3 to 7.
The sentences for counts 1 to 4 will run concurrently with count 7, resulting in an effective sentence of 60 years. Additionally, Chauke is facing three counts of murd3r.
