Bulawayo Mayor David Coltart has expressed his desire to host Hopewell Chin’ono, a journalist and outspoken critic of the Zimbabwean government.
In a statement seen by Newsreportzim.com, David Coltart wrote a message to Hopewell Chin’ono, which reads:
“I would relish the opportunity to host you in the great @CityofBulawayo to explain how we propose balancing the interests of informal vendors and the need for law and order.
We have just done a survey supported by @FEStiftung
as a first step in understanding what the needs of our vendors are.
In response, Chin’ono accepted Bulawayo’s Mayor invite.
“Thank you, Mayor @DavidColtart.
I welcome such an invitation. You only need to provide me with coffee and Black Forest cake when I arrive, I will find my way to your great city when you are ready to invite me.
I would love to see the things you are doing, and it would be an honor to be your guest who will share these things with the rest of the world.”
