The Zimbabwean opposition political party, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has announced that one of their members, a mother who lost her child while she was arrested along with other opposition members, has been denied permission to attend her child’s funeral.
In a statement on the Citizens Coalition for Change’s X page, they reported that they had requested the court for her release to attend her son’s funeral, but no action had been taken to allow her to pay her last respects. It is reported that the child will be laid to rest today.
“The child of one of the jailed members, who tragically p@ssed away while their mother is in custody, will be laid to rest this afternoon. The mother, who is still languishing in jail for a crime she did not commit, suffered a broken leg after being brutally beaten by the police. Despite our requests to the court for her release to attend her son’s funeral, no action has been taken to allow her to pay her last respects. The mother, along with the #Avondale78 and Senator Jameson Timba, will appear before the Harare Magistrates’ Court at 11:15 a.m. this morning.”
