HARARE city health authorities have revealed that the increasing number of influenza cases being recorded at its clinics have raised concerns over a potential outbreak of the respiratory disease.
According to statistics from the City Health Department, a significant surge in cases has been reported in recent weeks, with most patients presenting with symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, and fatigue.
The department’s director, Dr Prosper Chonzi, said in an interview that the sudden spike in cases is worrying and requires immediate attention.
“We are experiencing a significant increase in influenza cases at our clinics, and we are taking measures to contain the spread of the disease,” Dr Chonzi said.
“We urge residents to take preventive measures such as frequent hand-washing, covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.”
The Harare City Council has also urged residents to report any suspected cases of influenza to the nearest clinic or hospital immediately.
The council has also advised residents to maintain good hygiene practices such as washing their hands regularly, covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
Residents are advised to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of influenza, which include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, fatigue, or muscle or body aches.
