War veteran and retired Brigadier-General Romeo Donald Mutsvunguma, who di3d in Rusape last Wednesday, has been declared a national hero.
His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, conferred the highest honor on Brigadier-General Mutsvunguma in recognition of his immense contributions to Zimbabwe before and after the country’s independence.
According to sources, he was 67 years old.
Zanu PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Cde Patrick Chinamasa, accompanied by other central committee members, delivered the news of the national hero status to the Mutsvunguma family at their homestead in Rusape on Wednesday, June 26.
Patrick Chinamasa conveyed President Mnangagwa’s message that R.D. Mutsvunguma attained national hero status due to his significant contributions before and after independence.
Brigadier-General Mutsvunguma was born on March 4, 1957, in Makoni District and crossed the border into Mozambique in September 1975, where he joined the liberation struggle with 16 other cadres, including three females.
