A 33-year-old Rwandan woman, Esther Nyirangirimana, has been arraigned in a Zimbabwean court and fined $50 or sentenced to 30 days in prison for vi0lating the country’s immigration laws.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Nyirangirimana was arrested on June 6, 2024, by immigration officials at a bus terminal in Karoi.
The authorities found that Nyirangirimana was attempting to board a bus bound for Harare without a valid permit or passport endorsement.
Although she possessed a valid Rwandan passport bearing her name, it did not have a visitor’s entry permit issued by the Zimbabwean Immigration Department.
As a result, a warrant of detention was issued, and Nyirangirimana was brought before a magistrate’s court, where she was charged with contravening the Immigration Act.
