Residents of Harare have expressed concern over the recent decision by the government to take over the collection of solid waste in the city, indicating a lack of transparency and accountability from the Harare City Council (HCC).
The residents are demanding more information on the move, which they say compromises the local authority’s ability to effectively manage waste collection.
According to reports, the government has announced plans to take over the collection of solid waste in Harare.
However, residents are worried that this move will lead to further chaos and inefficiencies in an already struggling system.
“We want to know what exactly is going to happen,” said a resident of Mbare .
“Will they be taking over all waste collection or just some areas?”
Another resident from Kuwadzana added, “We need transparency and clarity on this issue.
The council has been struggling to manage waste collection for years, and we don’t see how taking it over will solve the problem. We need to know what their plan is and how it will affect us as residents.”
As tensions continue to rise, residents are left wondering what the future holds for Harare’s waste management system.
